Jeanine Meerapfel

was born in Buenos Aires and lives in Berlin. Between 1964 and 1968 she studied in Alexander Kluge’s Film Department at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Ulm. From 1970 to 1979 she was a film critic for German publications and taught film at the Universität Ulm. Since the 1990s she has been a professor in the Film Department of the Kunsthochschule für Medien, Cologne. She is a member of the German Academy of Arts (of which she has been president since 2015, the first woman to hold this position), a member of the European Film Academy and of the Deutsche Filmakademie.
